Mumbai Spartans registered their first win of the Legends League Cricket 2026 season with a clinical 17-run victory over India Tigers at Haldwani. Notably, Bharath Chipli earned Player of the Match for a blistering 42 off 22 balls that set the tone early in the innings.

Batting first, Mumbai Spartans posted 160/8 in 20 overs, largely thanks to Chipli’s explosive start and useful lower-order contributions from Asad Pathan (25 off 32) and Shoaib Khan (17 off 9). Meanwhile, Shadab Jakati was the standout bowler for India Tigers with impressive figures of 3/24 in 4 overs, while Samit Patel kept things tight with 1/13 at an economy of just 3.20.

In reply, S Sreesanth struck twice in the very first over to leave India Tigers reeling at 1/2. Although Kamau Leverock (49 off 37) and Kuldeep Hooda (45 off 41) fought hard to rebuild, the early damage proved too much. As a result, India Tigers could only manage 143/6 in 20 overs, falling 17 runs short of the target.

First Innings Highlights

Here are the complete 1st Inning Highlights:

Chipli’s Powerplay Blitz Sets the Stage

Chadwick Walton fell early for 9 off 7 (2 fours), caught by Pawan Negi off Sumit Singh at just 13/1 in the 2nd over. However, Bharath Chipli wasted no time in taking charge. Together with Mausif Khan, he put on a rapid 56-run partnership in just 28 balls for the second wicket. Chipli smashed 42 off 22 balls with six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 190.91. Similarly, Mausif Khan contributed a quickfire 18 off 9 (2 fours, 1 six) before being stumped by Amit Paunikar off Shadab Jakati at 69/2 in the 6th over. Just two balls later, Samit Patel bowled Chipli to make it 69/3. Despite the quick wickets, Mumbai Spartans had already raced to 69 in the powerplay.

Middle Overs Struggle and Jakati’s Spell

After the powerplay fireworks, India Tigers fought back strongly through their spinners. Shadab Jakati was the key figure, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/24 in 4 overs at an economy of 6.00. He dismissed Mausif Khan, Amit Verma (1 off 5, lbw), and Manan Sharma (2 off 4, stumped) to leave Mumbai Spartans wobbling at 83/5 after 9.3 overs. In addition, Samit Patel was exceptionally economical with 1/13 in 4 overs at just 3.20 runs per over. Consequently, the Spartans collapsed from 69/2 to 83/5, losing three more wickets for just 14 runs between overs 6 and 10.

Lower Order Rescue Act

Asad Pathan and Rahul Yadav then steadied the ship with a crucial 28-run stand in 43 balls for the sixth wicket. Pathan contributed 25 off 32 (1 four, 1 six) before being run out at 111/6 in the 17th over. Furthermore, the tail wagged effectively in the final overs. Shoaib Khan smashed a rapid 17 off 9 balls with three fours, while Sreesanth added 6 off 3 including a six. To cap it off, Suboth Bhati launched a six off his only delivery to finish unbeaten on 6. As a result, Mumbai Spartans added 49 runs in the last 4 overs to push their total to a competitive 160/8. Abu Nechim was expensive with 2/45 in 3 overs, despite picking up two late wickets.

Second Innings Highlights

Here are the complete 2nd Inning Highlights:

Sreesanth’s First-Over Double Strike

S Sreesanth produced one of the most dramatic opening overs of LLC 2026. On the very first ball of the chase, he had Amitoze Singh caught by Chadwick Walton for a duck at 0/1. Then, just two balls later, Tillakaratne Dilshan also fell to Sreesanth, again caught by Walton, for another duck at 1/2 in just 0.3 overs. Consequently, India Tigers were in deep trouble before the innings had barely started. Amit Paunikar (10 off 12, 1 four) tried to settle things alongside Kamau Leverock, and the pair added 26 runs in 22 balls. However, Suboth Bhati removed Paunikar at 27/3 in the 5th over, keeping the pressure on. India Tigers limped to just 40 runs in the powerplay with three wickets already down.

Leverock and Hooda Lead the Fightback

Samit Patel offered a brief cameo of 6 off 6 balls (1 four) before Manan Sharma bowled him at 45/4 in the 7th over. From there, Kamau Leverock and Kuldeep Hooda launched a determined rescue mission. Their 41-run partnership in 30 balls for the fifth wicket brought India Tigers back into the contest. Leverock played with real intent, striking 49 off 37 balls with eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 132.43. Nevertheless, Amit Verma trapped him LBW at 86/5 in the 12th over, ending a knock that had given the Tigers genuine hope.

Close But Not Enough for India Tigers

After Leverock’s departure, Kuldeep Hooda and captain Pawan Negi put together the biggest partnership of the innings. Their 57-run stand in 47 balls for the sixth wicket kept the chase alive deep into the final overs. Hooda played an excellent hand, scoring 45 off 41 balls with six fours and a six at a strike rate of 109.76. Negi, meanwhile, remained unbeaten on 23 off 21 (1 four, 2 sixes). Ultimately, though, Amit Verma bowled Hooda at 143/6 in the 20th over, and the required rate had climbed beyond reach. India Tigers finished on 143/6, falling 17 runs short. Mumbai Spartans picked up their first win of LLC 2026, thanks to a complete team performance across both innings.
